What you should know about white spots on teeth.

Have you noticed white spots on your teeth?…

White spots on the teeth may reflect poor oral hygiene or the appearance of a cavity, but it is not always the case. Although it is a problem that can be easily treated, it still looks unsightly when you smile.

What are the white spots on my teeth?

It is probably the result of any of these factors: poor dental hygiene, dental hypoplasia, dental fluorosis, onset of caries or abuse of sugary foods, if you did not understand any of them, do not worry! Later we will explain them to you.

Before we begin it is important to clarify a myth: that they are not generated by orthodontic treatment as many people think, unless the patient has not had good oral hygiene during the use of orthodontic appliances and therefore is caused by poor dental hygiene during orthodontic treatment by the prolonged presence of plaque around the bracket.

*on both teeth it can be seen where the bracket was previously placed.

Both children and adults are prone to suffer this type of stains. In the case of small children they can be generated after an episode of high fever or high intake of fluorosis, and in adults it is the consequence of a problem in the formation of teeth or poor oral hygiene.

In fact, they may be related to the following oral diseases:

Dietary deficiency.

When we have a diet low in minerals and nutrients, the deficit of their consumption may be reflected in the teeth. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to include at an early age in the daily diet foods rich in magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, such as almonds, hazelnuts, legumes, fruits and vegetables.

Poor dental hygiene

Poor dental hygiene can be the trigger for white spots on teeth and cavities due to demineralization caused by the acids present in the dento-bacterial plaque.

Fluorosis

Dental fluorosis is caused by the consumption of an excessive amount of fluoride during the period when teeth are forming, but before they erupt from the gums, that is, at an early age.

Excess fluoride in the teeth can cause white stains, as it deteriorates the enamel. When this happens, calcium accumulates in the tooth and as time goes by the white spots on the teeth tend to turn brown, these spots are more prone to the formation of cavities.

Decalcification

Occurs when acids and bacterial plaque affect tooth enamel. The appearance of white spots on the teeth are the indication that cavities are coming. This is caused by poor oral hygiene or poor brushing technique.
