There is a version of cosmetic dentistry that produces the same smile on every face: uniformly white, uniformly square, unmistakably done. That is not what is practiced here.
A smile reads as attractive when it belongs to the face it is in — in proportion to the lip line, to the width of the face, to the shape of the other features. That is a design problem before it is a dental one, and it is why the result is planned and shown to you before a single tooth is prepared.
It is also why the conservative option comes first. If whitening and bonding get you where you want to be, that is what you will hear recommended, not veneers. The most common regret in cosmetic dentistry is a veneer case that should have been something smaller.

Whitening, bonding and contouring are considered before porcelain. Enamel that is removed does not grow back.
Where should I start?
With photographs and a conversation about what you notice, rather than with choosing a procedure. The treatment is a conclusion, and it is often smaller than what patients came in expecting.
Will it look obviously done?
It should not. Proportion to your face, some variation between teeth, and a shade that belongs to your complexion are what separate work that reads as natural from work that reads as dental.

It depends on the treatment: whitening is maintained and repeated, bonding is renewed periodically, porcelain is the most durable of the three. Each comes with a realistic expectation rather than a promise.
Some of it. Whitening and bonding are typically single-visit. Porcelain work is designed, tried in and then fitted, which is normally two visits with a defined interval between them.
That is what the design and trial stage exists to prevent: you see it on your own face before anything is prepared. Changes made at that point cost nothing, and changes made afterwards cost a great deal.
