Makeover Dental Studio is organized around a single decision: that each discipline is practiced by someone who does only that. It is a harder practice to build. It is also the reason a complex case does not get referred out, because the expertise is already in the building.
Every clinician here is licensed by Mexico’s federal education ministry, the Secretaría de Educación Pública. The license numbers are published on this page so you can verify them yourself, in the public registry, before you ever sit in a chair.
Dr. Rafael Cortés Álvarez
Implantology · Director
Dr. Cortés founded Makeover Dental Studio and is its Director. He built it around a principle that is harder to run and better for the patient: each discipline is practiced by someone who does only that. A pioneer of guided implant surgery in Baja, in 2006 he placed the region’s first All-on-6 case using NobelGuide 3D technology, and he has worked with Nobel Biocare for the nineteen uninterrupted years since. He graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and holds implantology credentials from Loma Linda University in the United States.
He was mentored directly by Professor Dr. Alan Kleiman, a pioneer in modern implant research, and worked through the fundamentals of Dr. Sascha Jovanovic’s continuing-education system. He plans and places implants using Nobel Biocare, Straumann and Hiossen systems. Surgical guides are produced in the studio’s own laboratory, generally within an hour of the scan.

Dr. Jorge Maytorena

Dentist and implantologist, working alongside Dr. Cortés on implant and full-arch cases. He trained at CEUS Universidad and at the Instituto Alzaga in Baja California, and works with the DASS protocol — Digitally Assisted Soft tissue Sculpturing, developed by Pozzi and Arcuri — which previews the soft-tissue result before surgery.

A graduate of Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in 2007 as a Dental Surgeon, Dr. Erika Padilla Montes de Oca brings more than eighteen years of professional experience, focused on orthodontics and smile transformation.
She is an orthodontic specialist with experience across different systems and techniques — the Damon Advanced System, Tip-Edge, Invisalign and ClearCorrect — which lets her build each treatment around the needs, anatomy and goals of the patient in front of her.
Her practice is defined by an integral approach: not only correct alignment and bite function, but results that are harmonious, esthetic and natural. Her precision, attention to detail and commitment to each case carry patients through the process of reaching a healthy, balanced smile.
Dr. Erika has been part of the Makeover Dental Studio team since 2010, where she has built a long track record distinguished by professionalism, experience and dedication to her patients.

Her training is in what happens when something goes wrong: airway management, rapid-response protocols, and holding your circulation steady through the procedure. That is the reason she is in the room. She monitors you before, during and after, and she has nothing else to do while the dentist works.
