Same Day Dental Crown
A crown that is prepared, scanned, designed, made and fitted in the same appointment — because the laboratory is in the building rather than a courier away. For someone who crossed a border that morning, that is the difference between one trip and two.
One visit, five stages
Assessment
The tooth is examined and imaged. If it is not a same-day case, you are told that before anything is prepared, not after.
Preparation
The tooth is shaped for the crown under anesthetic, exactly as it would be for a crown made anywhere else.
Digital scan
An intraoral scanner records the prepared tooth. No impression tray, no putty, and nothing waiting to be shipped.
Design and fabrication
The crown is designed on screen and produced in the studio's own laboratory while you are still in the building.
Fitting
It is tried in, checked against your bite and the neighboring teeth, adjusted, and cemented the same day.
Why a crown usually takes two appointments
Nothing is wrong with the conventional route. It is simply built around a laboratory that is somewhere else.
- An impression is taken and sent out to a laboratory
- A temporary crown protects the tooth in the meantime
- The case spends time in transit, in both directions
- A second appointment is booked to fit the finished crown
Why this one does not
Every stage that normally happens between the two appointments happens during this one.
- The prepared tooth is recorded with an intraoral scanner
- The design is done on screen, in the studio
- The laboratory is in-house, with a digital workflow
- The fitting happens in the same appointment
An intraoral scanner
The prepared tooth is captured digitally, which is what lets the design begin immediately instead of after a delivery.
3Shape and Exocad
The same design software the studio uses for its implant and restorative planning, rather than a separate system bolted on.
An in-house laboratory
Connected by a digital workflow to two established laboratories in the region, for the work that genuinely needs them.
If you are crossing the border for this
One appointment instead of two is worth far more to a patient from San Diego than to one from the next street. It removes a second crossing, a second day away from work, and the weeks in between spent wearing a temporary. Saturday appointments run until 4:00pm, which is what makes a single-day trip workable for people who cannot take a weekday off.
What to ask before you travel for one
A short call settles most of this, and it settles it before you are in the car rather than in the chair.
- Whether your tooth is a same-day case at all
- What the crown will be made of, and why that material for that tooth
- How the bite will be checked before it is cemented
- What the plan becomes if the case has to be staged after all
Frequently asked
Is a same-day crown as good as one made in a laboratory?
It is made in a laboratory — the studio’s own. What changes is the distance and the waiting between the design and the fitting, not whether a laboratory and a design process are involved.
How long does the appointment take?
Longer than a conventional crown appointment, because the stages that normally happen between two visits happen while you are here. What to plan for is something the studio can tell you once your tooth has actually been assessed, rather than from a page.
Will I still need a temporary crown?
Avoiding one is the point of doing it in a single visit: the crown is fitted the same day. Where a case has to be staged, a provisional is made in the studio’s own laboratory within twenty-four hours at most.
Can a crown on an implant be done the same day?
It depends on the stage the implant is at. An implant still integrating is not restored early to save someone a trip. The plan is written around the healing rather than around the calendar.
Which currency is it quoted in?
Both. Treatment is quoted in Mexican pesos and U.S. dollars, and the written plan states which one applies to you and at what rate, rather than leaving it to be worked out afterwards.
What it costs
Prices in USD. Every plan is confirmed after imaging and clinical evaluation; the written estimate you receive before treatment is the one that applies.

How many visits this takes is something you can know before you book the drive.
Preparation, laboratory time and fitting are what set the schedule, and yours is written out before you commit to it. Where a crown can be finished in a single visit, that is said plainly.

If you have been told a tooth needs a crown, the useful questions are how much structure is left and whether your case can be finished in one visit. Both are answered by an examination, not by a page.
