How do I know if I grind my teeth?
Most grinders find out from their dentist, not from the noise. Worn, flattened edges; unexplained chips; sensitivity; a jaw that wakes up tired. If any of that sounds familiar, the exam settles the question quickly — the evidence is written on the teeth.
I invested in veneers or implants. Do I need a guard?
If you grind, emphatically yes. Porcelain and implant restorations take grinding forces worse than natural teeth take them, and a night guard is the difference between work that lasts decades and work that comes back broken. A night guard is engineered for hours of steady clenching force; a sports guard absorbs impact. They are different appliances, and we make both — custom-fitted from a scan.
Custom guards are slim and stable, and most patients adapt within days. Comfort issues are almost always a fit problem — which is what the adjustment visit is for.
It depends on how hard you grind — the guard is sacrificial by design, wearing so your teeth do not. It is checked at your regular visits and replaced when it has done its job.
Often, when the pain comes from clenching. If the exam points to something beyond bruxism, you will hear an honest referral-level answer, not a guard sold as a cure-all.
Rinse and brush it gently, store it dry in its case, and bring it to your check-ups so wear can be reviewed.
