Tooth Extraction

When a tooth cannot be saved, how it is removed determines what is still possible afterwards.

An extraction is not the end of a plan. It is the beginning of whatever replaces the tooth, and the bone preserved during removal is the bone available for an implant later.

That is why technique matters. Removing a tooth atraumatically, respecting the walls of the socket rather than levering against them, and grafting that socket in the same appointment costs one visit and can save a bone graft years down the line.

The first question, though, is whether the tooth has to come out at all. Endodontic treatment, a crown or periodontal therapy is almost always preferable to losing the tooth, and a recommendation to extract should be explained against those alternatives rather than instead of them.

Who performs the extraction

Dr. Rafael Cortés Álvarez, Director of Makeover Dental Studio, is a pioneer of guided implant surgery in Baja: in 2006 he placed the region’s first All-on-6 case using NobelGuide 3D technology, and he has worked with Nobel Biocare for the nineteen uninterrupted years since. He graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and holds a diploma from Loma Linda University. His work carries the imprint of two lineages: the direct mentorship of Professor Dr. Alan Kleiman, a pioneer in modern implant research, and the advanced protocols of Dr. Sascha Jovanovic’s continuing-education system, which he keeps refining alongside faculty from the world’s leading implant programs. That is what mentorship passes down, case by case — and it is the method behind the plan presented to you. Cédula profesional 5933630.

An extraction is rarely just an extraction: what happens to the socket afterwards decides whether an implant is straightforward later. It is planned with that next step already in view.

Removing a tooth with the next step in mind

Save it, if it can be saved

Imaging and a periodontal assessment come first. Extraction is a decision made against the alternatives, not before them.

Atraumatic removal

The socket walls are preserved wherever the anatomy allows, because those walls are the bone an implant will need.

Grafting the socket

In most cases graft material is placed at the time of removal, limiting the collapse that follows an empty socket.

Can my tooth be saved?

Often, yes. Deep decay, a fracture below the gum line and advanced bone loss are the situations where it genuinely cannot, and each of those is visible on imaging you can look at together with the specialist.

Should I have the socket grafted?

If you intend to replace the tooth with an implant, usually yes, because it limits the collapse of the ridge before it happens. If the site will carry a bridge or nothing at all, the answer can be different.

What it costs

Simple extraction$90
Atraumatic extraction$120 – $150
Complete digital x-ray set (16-20)$80

Prices in USD. Every plan is confirmed after imaging and clinical evaluation; the written estimate you receive before treatment is the one that applies.

Frequently asked

What patients ask before they book. If yours is not here, the fastest answer is a call.

A simple extraction settles within a few days, with soreness rather than sharp pain and a short list of things to avoid. Surgical extractions take longer and come with written aftercare.

Extraction with socket grafting is normally a single appointment, and follow-up can often be handled remotely with photographs. The replacement is planned as its own visit later.

For front teeth a temporary is usually arranged so you are not walking around with a space while the site heals.

The answer starts with your scan, not with a plan someone already made.

Whether you need this procedure at all is a question imaging answers, and the reasoning behind it should be visible to you. If a shorter route exists in your case, that is the one you will hear about.

A second opinion before an extraction is not distrust; it is a reasonable step when the tooth cannot be put back. If you have recent imaging it can be reviewed before you come in.
